3) Pray for Discernment - James 1:5

Sept 16, 2012

Today Matthew West talked about how his father always asked him in multiple situations throughout his life, whether it was up to bat or heading into surgery, "What does Phillipians 4:13 say?"  He would respond... "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

I challenge you today to find a verse in the bible that could become your "family" verse - something you teach your kids and memorize, something that brings unity to the whole family and is a "thing" that ties you together.  Perhaps it is Phillipians 4:13 and you are done looking, or perhaps it is Phillipians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again. Rejoice!" or Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you..." or Phillipians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything..."   Search,  Pray, and start memorizing today.  (hey, that rhymes :)  I'm sure it will bless the whole family.

This week...
We covered a portion of the 2nd chapter of "The Story of Your Life" - Strong Enough.  While the video and discussion covers quite a bit, the book is a great tool for further study.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday or Cheese Dip Day or whatever it is to you!!

Today...
We discussed Jesus's encounter with Peter in John 21:1-19. There is a lot to dig into these scriptures and some home study questions...

Q1: Do you think Peter just enjoys fishing, or is this a step back to his old career and way of life before he became a follower of Jesus? How do you come to this conclusion? Does Luke 5:1-11 weigh into your answer?
Q2: If a close friend abandoned you, how would you respond to this sort of less-than-total commitment later? What does Peter discover about Jesus through Jesus' response to him (v15)?
Q3: How would you honestly answer Jesus' three questions? What would Jesus say to you in response?

Prayer Point: Seek Jesus' forgiveness for any failure. Thank Him that He responds to you with grace and love.

Next week....
Set Free: Mark 5:1-20
The discussions are independent of one another, so please come if you can?

January 15th, 2012

Not sure about you, but I feel "more smarter" knowing more about the context of the famous verse of John 3:16. :)

Today...
In our series of "Encountering Jesus", we talked about Jesus's encounter with Nicodemus (John 3:1-21).

Further Study...
In light of verse 14, read Numbers 21: 4-9. How does that story illustrate our spiritual need and what Jesus came to do?

Next week...
Caught in the Act. John 8:1-11. The discussions are independent of one another, so please come when you can!

Things to know about...

January 8th, 2012

Hello all...

Don't know about you , but there is something nice about getting back to regular schedules after all that holiday food and fun!

This Week...
We are starting a new series of discussions called "Encountering Jesus". The discussions do not depend on one another, so please come when you can.

The first encounter that we discussed was the woman by the well (John 4:1-30).

It never ceases to amaze me the things the Lord reveals as we dig into His word.
